Workshop 3: Assembling and programming a music box with micro:bit and micro:shield

In this workshop we will assemble and program a music box with the micro:bit and the micro:shield extension. We will use a stepper motor and an external light sensor, thanks to the capabilities of the micro:shield board. We will also learn how to use the Neopixel LEDs integrated into the shield to create an artistic, constructive and fun project.

Objectives

  • Program the interaction between a light sensor and a stepper motor to control the movement of a figure inside the music box.

  • Synchronize the activation of a melody with the movement of the stepper motor based on the reading of the light sensor.

  • Interpret and apply flowcharts to design the programming logic that governs the operation of the music box.

  • Visualize the data read by the light sensor through serial communication to check the correct operation of the system.
